The second book in the PSAP-VII series provides evidence-based updates on the management of a variety of patient population and issues encountered in the ICU environment.
The first module centers on the management of specific populations such as those patients who have had cardiovascular surgery, organ transplantation, or obstetrical emergencies. The second module discusses the management of core ICU issues such as sepsis, bacterial and fungal infections, and prevention and treatment of thromboembolic disorders. The third module focuses on management of medical emergencies that commonly lead to ICU admissions such as exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, seizure, diabetes, hypertension, and drug overdoses. This module also explores common adverse drug events seen in ICU patients, as well as safe medication use in the ICU.
Each PSAP-VII chapter has an extensive annotated bibliography that identifies key research articles, clinical practice guidelines, and Web sites relevant to recent developments in the treatment of critically ill patients. New to this edition, each chapter also identifies baseline knowledge resources to maximize understanding of topic areas.
