This educational CD-ROM tutorial is designed to strengthen the clinician's skills in writing parenteral nutrition orders. The tutorial provides instruction on how to perform a nutrition assessment to estimate nutrient requirements and to design a safe and appropriate parenteral nutrition formulation, including macronutrients, electrolytes, minerals, trace elements, and vitamins. The tutorial also describes how to identify the appropriate type of vascular access device for administration of parenteral nutrition. Other issues addressed by the CD-ROM tutorial include monitoring patients for response and complications related to parenteral nutrition therapy and facilitating patients' transition from in-patient to home parenteral nutrition.
