PRN Name Change Reflects Expanded Scope

The ACCP Board of Regents has approved a request from the former Pharmacokinetics/Pharmacodynamics Practice and Research Network to change its name to the Pharmacokinetics/Pharmacodynamics/Pharmacogenomics PRN.

The question of a name change was included on the PRN’s ballot in the 2011 annual election. Most of the PRN’s members voting supported the proposed name change. ACCP policy requires that PRN members vote on any proposed PRN name change before a formal proposal is made to the ACCP Board of Regents, which has final authority to approve name changes.

In requesting Board of Regents approval for a name change, PRN leaders described the practice and research network as the home for personalized therapy for all therapeutic areas and, as such, a natural fit for clinical pharmacists with an interest in pharmacogenomics. PRN Chair-Elect Varsha Bhatt-Mehta, Pharm.D., M.S. (CRDSA), FCCP, explained that the PRN’s new name “officially embraces the science of pharmacogenomics.”

“The PK/PD/PG PRN membership will benefit from the new field and contribute to the enhancement of individualized medicine. The PK/PD/PG PRN encourages all ACCP members interested in the field to join the PRN and share their interests and expertise,” she said.
