Erika J. Ernst, PharmD, FCCP, BCIDP

Erika J. Ernst, Pharm.D., is an Associate Professor of Pharmacy in the Division of Health Services Research, Department of Pharmacy Practice and Science at the University of Iowa, College of Pharmacy and a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist, Infectious Diseases in the Department of Pharmaceutical Care at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Southern California. After completing a pharmacy practice residency at USC, she went on to complete an infectious diseases fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco. She has published extensively in the area of pharmacy practice, risk factors for infection with resistant pathogens and antimicrobial stewardship. She has more than 50 publications in scientific journals including Clinical Infectious Diseases, Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, Diagnostic Microbiology and Infectious Disease and Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology. She has received grants from non-profit agencies including the American Society of Health-system Pharmacist Foundation and the Society of Infectious Diseases Pharmacists and pharmaceutical industry to study infectious diseases-related topics. She has served as the President and Secretary/Treasurer of the Society of Infectious Diseases Pharmacists and Chair of the Infectious Diseases Practice and Research Network of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy. She is an associate editor of the Journal of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (JACCP).

Michael B. Kays, PharmD, FCCP, BCIDP

Michael B. Kays, Pharm.D., FCCP, BCIDP is an Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice at Purdue University College of Pharmacy, Adjunct Associate Professor of Medicine at Indiana University School of Medicine, and Clinical Specialist/Infectious Diseases at Eskenazi Health (Indianapolis, Indiana, USA). He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from Saint Louis College of Pharmacy in 1985 and his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the Medical University of South Carolina in 1988. His post-doctoral training included completion of a one-year residency and two-year fellowship in Infectious Diseases Pharmacotherapy at the Medical University of South Carolina (1988-1991). In May 1998, Dr. Kays joined the faculty at Purdue University College of Pharmacy. Dr. Kays is board certified in infectious diseases pharmacotherapy, and his research interests include pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics of antimicrobial agents with a focus on special patient populations, antimicrobial stewardship, and bacterial resistance in gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms. He has authored or co-authored 50 original research publications, 12 book chapters, and 99 abstracts at scientific meetings. Dr. Kays currently serves on the editorial/advisory board for Annals of Pharmacotherapy and Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, and he has served as an expert reviewer for 14 medical and pharmacy journals. Dr. Kays has received 4 awards for outstanding teaching, two at Purdue and two at the Medical University of South Carolina. He is a charter member of the Society for Infectious Diseases Pharmacists, and he is also a member of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy, American Society for Microbiology, and Infectious Diseases Society of America.
