Keynote Panel Will Examine Evidence-Based Decision-Making (November 11, 2023)

The ACCP Annual Meeting will kick off on Saturday, November 11, at 8:00 a.m. in the Dallas Ballroom at the Sheraton Dallas in Dallas, Texas. C. Lindsay DeVane, Pharm.D., FCCP, will lead a panel of ACCP members who will share experience and opinions about contemporary issues in interpreting evidence to guide therapeutic decision-making. 

DeVane is the editor-in-chief of Pharmacotherapy. He is also professor emeritus of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina. He has been a faculty member for over 35 years in public academic institutions in the United States. His bibliography encompasses over 300 publications and includes books, research reports, literature reviews, scientific commentaries, and editorials in scholarly journals. In addition, he is an author or coauthor on over 150 abstracts of research results presented at national and international meetings. DeVane’s research has focused on the pharmacology and use of drugs for the treatment of mental illness. He is a Fellow of ACCP and an award recipient from ACCP, the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, and the College of Psychiatric and Neurologic Pharmacists (now the American Association of Psychiatric Pharmacists). 

Panelists Alicia B. Forinash, Pharm.D., FCCP, BCACP, BCPS; Joseph M. LaRochelle, Pharm.D., FCCP, FNAP, FPPA, BCPPS; Marc H. Scheetz, Pharm.D., FCCP; and Kristin Watson, Pharm.D., BCCP, represent diverse practice settings and specialties, including women’s health, pediatrics, infectious diseases, and cardiology. 

Forinash is a professor of pharmacy practice at St. Louis College of Pharmacy at the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis, Missouri. She has practiced for over 15 years at SSM Health St. Mary’s in the Maternal & Fetal Care Center and the Women and Infant Substance Help (WISH) Center. Forinash is a board-certified specialist in pharmacotherapy (BCPS) and ambulatory care (BCACP) and a Fellow of ACCP. She has published numerous articles on women’s health in both the pharmacy and the medical literature. She is a coauthor of Briggs Drugs in Pregnancy and Lactation. She serves on the editorial board for the Annals of Pharmacotherapy and has served as chair of the Women’s Health Panel since 2015. In 2019–2021, Forinash served on the Communications Workgroup of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) Task Force on Research Specific to Pregnant Women and Lactating Women (PRGLAC). 

LaRochelle is vice chair and the Coleman Endowed Professor of Pharmacy Practice at Xavier University of Louisiana College of Pharmacy and a clinical professor of pediatrics at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana. He practices as a specialist in the pediatric intensive care unit and is a board-certified pediatric pharmacy specialist (BCPPS). His scholarship has included national position statements, research on extracorporeal membranous oxygenation, and medical and pharmacy education, as well as critical care textbook chapters. He is a Fellow of ACCP, the National Academies of Practice, and the Pediatric Pharmacy Association. 

Scheetz is an associate dean of research and professor at Midwestern University College of Pharmacy and holds a joint appointment in the Department of Pharmacology, College of Graduate Studies. Scheetz is the director of the Pharmacometrics Center of Excellence at Midwestern University. He currently practices clinically as an infectious diseases pharmacist at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in downtown Chicago, Illinois. Scheetz’s publications are in anti-infective pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. His primary research interest lies in the interface of the pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic interaction (i.e., between antimicrobials, pathogens, and hosts). He is particularly interested in assessing modifiable pharmacologic variables in the treatment of infectious diseases and identifying optimal exposures against the backdrop of toxicity. His group studies toxicology in the laboratory as well as through clinical data modeling. Scheetz is a Fellow of ACCP. He is actively engaged in local and national leadership positions and formerly served as a member of the FDA Antimicrobial Drugs Advisory Committee. 

Watson is an associate professor and director of the postgraduate year 2 cardiology residency program at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy. She is an ambulatory care cardiology pharmacist at the Baltimore Veterans Affairs Medical Center. She co-founded the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy’s ATRIUM Cardiology Collaborative. Watson’s scholarship interests are in residency training, heart failure, and peripheral arterial disease. She is a board-certified cardiology pharmacist (BCCP). Watson is an active member of the Heart Failure Society of America and the American Heart Association – Peripheral Arterial Disease committees and recently served as chair of the Heart Disease and Stroke Committee of the Maryland Advisory Council on Health and Wellness. She is actively engaged with pharmacy advocacy efforts within her state, most notably in the efforts related to smoking cessation. She is actively involved with patient education efforts for Aortic Hope. 

Evidence-based decision-making is an integral part of clinical pharmacy practice, and ACCP is excited for the opportunity to highlight member experience and expertise in this area. We hope you will plan to join your colleagues as they discuss this important topic.
