Abstract

Community-based pharmacy practice is transforming toward more active involvement in direct patient care, providing personalized medication counseling, monitoring patients’ health outcomes, and offering clinical services beyond traditional dispensing. The American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) Community-Based Practice and Research Network (PRN) was established in 2021 to support the unique needs of community-based pharmacists. This abstract highlights the significant contributions of the Community-Based PRN (CB-PRN) committees. The Communications Committee is tasked with coordination of all PRN communications, including the PRN listserv and website. The committee established a quarterly newsletter called “The Quarterly Dose.” The newsletter regularly features member spotlights, clinical pearls, and legislative updates. The Programming Committee takes charge of planning all educational events, encompassing year-round programming as well as the annual PRN Focus Session. They have developed a quarterly educational webinar series covering a wide range of topics such as social determinants of health, implementation science, community-based pharmacy research, and pharmacy support staff. The upcoming 2023 Focus Session will highlight community-based clinical services to support public health, including hormonal contraception, HIV PrEP and PEP, and behavioral health. The CB-PRN has collaborated with several other PRNs and organizations on programming including the Women’s Health PRN, Academia-Community Transformation (ACT) Pharmacy Collaborative, CPESN, and Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB). The Awards and Nominations Committee is responsible for slating candidates for College and PRN offices and awards. The Committee has launched four PRN awards: the Outstanding Educator Award, the Clinical Innovation Award, the Esteemed New Practitioner Award, and the Outstanding Paper Award. An ad-hoc committee was formed to write a PRN Opinion Paper on the history of and future directions for medication therapy management (MTM) in community-based pharmacy to help inform ACCP’s advocacy initiatives. Looking ahead, the CB-PRN will establish a fourth PRN committee, the Member Committee, responsible for member recruitment and retention.
