New Investigator Award/Lecture — Rationally Optimized Antibiotic Combinations for Carbapenem-Resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae

8:25 AM to 8:45 AM

Available for 0.25 hours of CPE credit
Activity Number: 0217-0000-23-190-L01-P
Activity Type: A Knowledge-Based Activity

Infections caused by carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (CR-Kp) are an urgent public health threat since they are associated with mortality rates of up to 34% and treatment options are very limited. Antibiotic combinations are frequently employed to treat CR-Kp. However, the approach for choosing antibiotics and dosing regimens to use in combinations to treat infections caused by CR-Kp have not been rationally optimized. This lecture will discuss new approaches to selecting antibiotics for combination therapy treatment of CR-Kp infections.

Available for 0.50 hours of CPE credit
Activity Number: 0217-0000-23-195-L05-P

Acute kidney injury (AKI) occurs in up to 22% of hospitalized patients and 65% of critically ill patients. Drugs contribute to approximately 30% of AKI cases in hospitalized patient. The incidence and patient outcomes associated with drug-associated AKI (D-AKI) is concerning and diligent surveillance is needed.  Understanding D-AKI begins with standardized definitions and classification framework ensure consistency. Developing a comprehensive nephrotoxin stewardship program will provide structured prevention and management strategies. This presentation emphasizes a fundamental understanding of what D-AKI is and approaches for stewardship.
