Available for 1.50 hours of CPE credit
Activity Number: 0217-0000-22-167-L01-P
Activity Type: A Knowledge-Based Activity
This learning activity will focus on the management of complex viral infections in solid organ transplant (SOT) recipients and modulation of immunosuppression in the setting of these infections. This activity will discuss the management of ganciclovir-resistant cytomegalovirus (CMV), including therapy options and immunosuppression management considerations. It will describe pharmacologic strategies and updates for the management of post-transplant community-acquired respiratory viruses (CARVs) including influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and parainfluenza virus. Additionally, it will help pharmacists formulate strategies to treat and modulate immunosuppression for BK polyomavirus in renal and non-renal transplant recipients.

Learning Objectives
1. Describe the implications of respiratory viruses in transplantation.
2. Discuss influenza immunization approaches in solid organ transplantation population.
3. Outline the management of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), parainfluenza virus (PIV), and influenza in transplant recipients.
4. Explain mechanisms of antiviral resistance and the role of various antiviral therapies in the treatment of ganciclovir-resistant CMV infections.
5. Identify strategies for immunosuppression augmentation in the setting of CMV infection.
6. Review literature surrounding therapies for prevention of BK-virus related complications.
7. Identify available therapy options for treatment of transplant recipients with symptomatic BK viruria or BK nephropathy.
8. Outline immunosuppression regimens for renal and non-renal transplant recipients with BK nephropathy.
