Clinical pharmacists evaluate and manage patients with a variety of pulmonary conditions across both outpatient and inpatient settings. Chronic and acute pulmonary conditions can be monitored by various types of respiratory technological devices (e.g., mechanical ventilators, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, in-check dial, digital spirometers, carbon monoxide monitors). The rise in respiratory devices can be attributed to various factors such as increases in the geriatric population and vaping, and as COVID-19 becomes endemic may have caused providers to utilize more technological advances to improve patient outcomes. It is imperative for clinical pharmacists to be educated on newer respiratory technology devices and their role in patient care to increase overall patient outcomes.
