ACCP member Christina Rose, Pharm.D., BCCCP, Clinical Professor at Temple University School of Pharmacy, and Suzanne Brown, MS, Director of Pharmacy at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia, PA, teamed up to create pharmacy services at a 152-bed COVID-19 alternate care site (ACS) in Temple University’s Liacouras Center. They advocated for pharmacy involvement and worked with city officials and a multidisciplinary team to plan pharmacy services for the ACS. Suzanne’s expertise in pharmacy administration facilitated her recognition and management of the regulatory issues involved in opening a pharmacy. Christina’s experience in pharmacy practice and education allowed her to successfully develop a formulary that would address therapeutic needs in emergent situations, create clinical guidelines and order sets, educate staff, and work with the clinical informatics team to ensure safe medication practices. Procedures and processes were developed to ensure that they were patient-centered and focused on staff safety.
