Investigators at the University of Kentucky (UK), led by ACCP member and past president Jill Kolesar, conducted a prospective cohort study among 90 quarantining UK students. Asymptomatic quarantining students were tested on days 3 or 4, 5, 7, 10 and 14 to assess the proportion of concordant negative results for each day versus day 14. Concordant negative results between Day 7 and 14 were 47/52 (90%, 95% CI: 79% - 97%), providing the first direct evidence to support the recent CDC recommendation of a 7 day quarantine in asymptomatic individuals with a negative test.
