ACCP Resident/Fellow Travel Awards

ACCP offers travel stipends to help defray the costs residents and fellows incur when attending the ACCP national meeting. Resident/Fellow Travel Awards are administered through the ACCP Research Institute and funded by the Resident/Fellow Travel Award Fund.

How to Apply

ACCP resident or fellow members in good standing who are enrolled in a training program at the time of the meeting are invited to apply.

Applicants should submit:

  • A completed online application
  • A CV or resume
  • One letter of recommendation
  • A personal essay of no more than 250 words describing the applicant’s interest in ACCP and objectives for attending the national meeting

PRN Resident/Fellow Travel Awards

In addition to ACCP Resident/Fellow Travel Awards, the following PRNs also provide travel awards to defray costs associated with attending the ACCP national meeting. Please see below for more information about each travel award, including eligibility and application deadlines.

Clinical Administration

Description
The Clinical Administration PRN will award travel grants to partially support the costs of travel and attendance of 1 resident that is interested in Clinical Pharmacy Administration at the ACCP Annual Meeting.

Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for the resident travel award, the candidate must: 1. Be a full time resident member of ACCP in good standing 2. Be a member of the Clinical Administration PRN 3. Currently enrolled in an administration residency program (PGY1 or PGY2) OR a resident that has demonstrated significant progress in a pharmacy administration project (completion not required). 4. Be committed to attending the ACCP Annual Meeting and Clinical Administration PRN Business Meeting, where the candidate will present their administration project. 5. Be committed to serving on any CADM PRN sub-committee for the 2019-2020 year.

The resident must submit the following: 1. Current Curriculum Vitae 2. An abstract describing the poster presentation or administration project 3. A personal statement (400 words or less) highlighting the following: a. Your involvement in pharmacy administration at a local or national level (including involvement with the Clinical Administration PRN) b. How you will benefit from your time at the ACCP Annual Meeting c. Interest in future involvement with ACCP and/or the Clinical Administration PRN

Critical Care

Description
The Critical Care PRN will award travel grants to partially support the costs of travel and attendance of up to 2 students and up to 2 critical care fellows and/or residents at the ACCP Annual meeting.

Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for the resident/fellow travel award the candidate must:
  • Be a current member of the Critical Care PRN
  • Be currently completing training or have completed training within the past 6 months in a critical care residency or fellowship program (under the direction of a critical care PRN member), PGY-1 residency with a critical care research topic (under the direction of a critical care PRN member), or a current critical care PGY-2 resident or fellow who has completed a critical care related project during their PGY-1 year
  • Have an abstract accepted for presentation at the annual ACCP meeting. For applicants who have completed training within the past 6 months, the research being presented must have been a project completed during their residency or fellowship program
Application Requirements
The abstract must be submitted to the Chair of the Critical Care PRN Awards Committee via email by the deadline stated in the call for abstracts. The abstracts will be scored individually by each member of the Awards Committee, and the award will be granted to the abstract with the highest average score. If an abstract is submitted by a resident or fellow that is under the mentorship of a member of the awards committee, that committee member will recuse him or herself from scoring that abstract. In the case of a tie score, the award will be determined by consensus of the members of the Awards Committee. For each award, the recipient will be required to present their poster during the Critical Care PRN Networking and Business Meeting at the ACCP Fall Meeting.

Drug Information

Description
The Drug Information PRN will be offering a travel award in the amount of $500 for one resident/fellow who will be presenting a drug information-related poster or research at the ACCP Annual Meeting in New York, NY on October 26-29, 2019.

Eligibility
Applicants for the resident/fellow award should have recently completed a residency/fellowship program (2018-2019). The residency/fellowship program is not required to be a drug information specialty residency, but the topic to be presented must be DI related. Applicants must agree to attend and give a 10-minute presentation at the Drug Information PRN business meeting at the ACCP Annual Meeting in New York, NY.
Application Requirements
The resident/fellow should submit the following: 1) a current CV; 2) a 1-2 page project summary which outlines the background, data collected, analysis, and conclusions as applicable; and 3) a description of how this project/activity is important to drug information specialists.

Education and Training

Description
The EDTR PRN travel award is intended to provide partial financial support to a resident and/or fellow to attend the ACCP Annual Meeting.

Eligibility
The applicant must be currently completing a PGY1, PGY2, or fellowship and be a member of the EDTR PRN. The recipient must be able to attend the EDTR PRN Business & Networking Meeting on the evening of either Sunday or Monday, October 27th or 28th at the New York Hilton Midtown in New York, NY. The recipient will be required to briefly comment on their experiences with ACCP, what they hope to gain or gained from attending the Annual Meeting, and their interest in education and training at the EDTR PRN business meeting.
Application Requirements
The following items must be submitted by the specified deadline: 1) A brief (500-word maximum) essay, describing the applicant’s interest and experiences in pharmacy education/training; why the applicant is involved with the EDTR PRN; and how attending the Annual Meeting will assist with the applicant's career goals. The applicant is encouraged to highlight involvement relevant to leadership, research, ACCP/the PRNs and activities indicating an interest in education. 2) A current CV, highlighting experiences related to education and training (i.e., teaching certificate program) and/or ACCP activities at the regional, PRN, and national level; and 3) Two letters of recommendation from references who can highlight the applicant’s interest and experiences in pharmacy education/training, interaction and interest in the EDTR PRN, how they envision the travel award will help the trainee achieve their career goals, and the trainee’s involvement in research and ACCP. The candidate is welcome to apply simultaneously for other travel awards from ACCP or other PRNs and this information will not be considered by the EDTR PRN in the evaluation of the trainee’s application. However, the EDTR PRN’s travel award will not be awarded to a recipient who has accepted either an ACCP general travel award or another PRN’s travel award (i.e., the recipient must determine if they wish to accept the EDTR travel award or another ACCP-based travel award if more than one is offered). Emergency Medicine

Description
The Emergency Medicine Practice and Research Network (EMED PRN) of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) will award one travel award per year for each a student and resident to partially support the costs of travel and attendance at the ACCP Annual Meeting. Each award will be $1,000. Only one author of the paper will be awarded the plaque and monetary award. Submitter must specify the intended author of recognition. The recipients of the travel awards will be required to present their research project as a 10-minute platform presentation at the EMED PRN Business Meeting at the 2019 ACCP Annual Meeting.

Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for this award, the applicant must meet the following criteria:
  • Be a current member of the EMED PRN
  • Have an abstract accepted for presentation (poster or platform) at the 2019 ACCP Annual Meeting or the 2019 ACCP Virtual Poster Symposium
  • Student Award – the applicant should have completed the research project as a student; however, can be graduated within six months preceding the meeting
  • Resident Award – the applicant may currently be a resident or have completed training within six months preceding the meeting
  • Be available to attend the 2019 ACCP Annual Meeting Research abstracts must meet the following criteria:
  • Only completed research projects will be considered. Abstracts submitted as “research-in-progress” will NOT be accepted.
  • Research must be related to the specialty of Emergency Medicine
  • Reviewed by Institutional Review Board (IRB) o Statement should be obvious within the abstract (ie approved or exempt by IRB)
  • Abstract submissions should follow the requirements for submission to the ACCP Annual Meeting: http://www.accp.com/meetings/abstractguide.aspx  For additional advice for writing an abstract, please review:  Kane-Gill S, Olsen KM. How to write an abstract suitable for publication. Hosp pharm 2004;39(3):289-292. Each applicant may only submit one research abstract for consideration for either the Student or Resident Award. Students or residents who have received an ACCP Travel Award or another PRN Travel Award for the 2019 ACCP Annual Meeting will have to decline the award of their choosing so that only one travel award is received. In the event that the EMED PRN Travel Award is declined, the runner-up will receive the award. Although all forms of research will be accepted, preference is given to primary prospective or retrospective research, but the Committee understands some topics are challenging to conduct larger scale research and this will be taken into consideration for scoring.

Endocrine and Metabolism

Description
The Endocrine and Metabolism (E/M) PRN Trainee Travel Grant is intended to provide financial support for one or more students, residents, and/or fellows attending the ACCP Annual Meeting. Each recipient of the travel grant is required to give a brief (10-minute) presentation at the E/M PRN Business & Networking meeting. The presentation can be an endocrine- or metabolism-related clinical pearl, a description of a completed or ongoing research project, or a journal article review. Each recipient of the travel grant will be assigned a mentor (who is a member of the E/M PRN) who will provide guidance with the preparation of this presentation.

Pain and Palliative Care

Description
The Pain and Palliative Care PRN will award 2 travel grants in the amount of $500 each. The PRN will distribute the grants to either students, residents, or fellows based on the quality of the individual applications, and not the level of training. If selected, the applicant is expected to give a brief presentation on pain management and/or palliative care at the Pain and Palliative Care PRN Business & Networking Meeting at the 2019 Global Conference on Clinical Pharmacy.

Pharmacokinetics/Pharmacodynamics/Pharmacogenomics

The M. Kelli Jordan Travel Award is a $1000 award to provide an opportunity for one pharmacy student, resident or fellow to present and promote his or her current research efforts to the PK/PD/PG PRN.
