ACCP Releases Clinical Pharmacist Competencies and New Template for Clinical Pharmacist Evaluation
March 14, 2017
The ACCP Board of Regents has released two new guidelines to support the development of clinical pharmacists as direct patient care providers. The 2016 Certification Affairs Committee, led by Joseph Saseen (chair) and Toni Ripley (co-chair), developed the "ACCP Clinical Pharmacist Competencies." This guideline, which describes six essential competency domains for clinical pharmacists, is designed to be applied to both postgraduate trainees and practicing clinicians. The 2016 Clinical Practice Affairs Committee, led by Mary Lee (chair) and Melissa Badowski (co-chair), concurrently prepared an updated "ACCP Template for Evaluating a Clinical Pharmacist." This template, which aligns with the clinical pharmacist competencies, is designed to serve as a tool for clinical pharmacist performance evaluation and professional development.
These guidelines will be published in Pharmacotherapy later this year. Pre-publication drafts of the competencies and evaluation papers can be accessed now at www.accp.com/docs/positions/guidelines/Competencies_Final_2.25.17.pdf and http://www.accp.com/docs/positions/guidelines/Template PrePub Final_3.6.17.pdf, respectively.
