Giving Thanks

Thanksgiving is a national holiday in the United States that was first celebrated in 1621 by the Plymouth colonists and the Wampanoag people, who shared an autumn harvest feast. The holiday was officially recognized in 1863, when President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national Thanksgiving Day to be held each November. In my family, we always go around the dinner table and reflect on what we are thankful for. As I traveled home from the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) Annual Meeting and looked forward to the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, I reflected on what an honor it was to serve as the 43rd president of ACCP. I am thankful to all our members, the Board of Regents (BOR), and our staff. I greatly appreciated everyone’s leadership, encouragement, support, and, most of all, feedback.

Sharing is an important part of Thanksgiving. It is a time to come together with family and friends and express gratitude for the blessings of the year. Sharing can take many forms, such as sharing a meal, sharing stories, or sharing experiences. In that spirit, I want to thank the members of ACCP who attended one of last month’s two virtual town halls or the live town hall at the Annual Meeting and expressed their concerns and suggestions regarding the College. The BOR and staff are listening and remain attentive to your feedback. I am hopeful that members will continue to provide feedback and that we will use this feedback to effect improvements in all we do. In addition to what we receive through social media, I encourage members to continue to send feedback to [email protected]. As Dr. Brian Hemstreet takes the helm as ACCP’s next president, I look forward to working with the BOR as immediate past president to ensure ACCP continues to be the professional home for those seeking to develop, advance, and position clinical pharmacists to deliver better patient care. Please enjoy your Thanksgiving and thank you for allowing me to serve ACCP as its 43rd president.
