      Endocrine and Metabolism PRN

The Endocrine & Metabolism PRN is comprised of pharmacists and student pharmacists from a variety of practice settings. The PRN was formed to achieve the following goals and objectives: 1) Provide an opportunity for pharmacists with an interest in endocrine and metabolism disorders to promote practice, research, and education in these areas; 2) Provide a mechanism for members with similar interests to meet during ACCP meetings to network, problem solve, and discuss professional issues and opportunities; and 3) Promote practice involvement, educational needs of health care professionals, students and patients, and research activities in the areas of endocrinology and metabolism that may be favorably impacted upon by this ACCP PRN effort. The most recent PRN blog is available at: https://endoprn.wordpress.com/2019/03/01/patient-centered-care/.

      Other Notable Achievements

      • Scott A. Soefje: Fellow, Hematology Oncology Pharmacy Association (FHOPA)
      Hematology/Oncology PRN

The Hematology/Oncology PRN continues to provide a forum for hematology/oncology pharmacists to network and collaborate on scientific, educational, and political issues affecting clinical practice, teaching, and research. We have 778 members with trainees (students and residents) making up nearly 50% of the PRN membership.

At the Annual Meeting, the PRN hosted resident and student travel awardees. Because of the increase in student membership and the desire for more opportunities to connect, the second half of the PRN meeting served as a networking session focused on clinical and research activities of the membership. One of the requests of the PRN was to increase the amount of involvement that students and residents have; therefore, we have activities geared towards trainees. We also formed three committees within the PRN, which includes trainees, to help the PRN officers complete their initiatives.

The PRN has made plans to donate to the Frontier fund and nominations for 2019 awards have been submitted. Plans for PRN collaboration with the Pharmaceutical Industry PRN are underway for the 2019 PRN focus session.

Pediatrics PRN

Several Pediatrics PRN subcommittees have been developing new programming and opportunities for its members. Highlights are as follows:

Education Committee: Resident and fellow journal clubs - please keep your eye on the PRN’s e-mail list and Facebook page for more information.

Education Committee: Focus session for this year’s ACCP Annual Meeting has been submitted and is currently under review. The proposal is an update in the emerging medical use of cannabinoid products in the pediatric population.,/p>

Research Committee: Continues to support PRN members in their research and scholarly endeavors. The Pediatrics PRN is excited for the opportunity to sponsor eligible Pediatrics PRN members to participate in ACCP FIT and/or ACCP MeRIT program. If approved, the sponsorship would provide eligible applicants with financial support to cover part of the ACCP FIT/MeRIT tuition. More information can be found on the PRN website.

Travel Awards Committee: Will provide two awards again this year, one for students and one for residents.

Social Media Committee: Manages our Facebook (https://facebook.com/accppediprn/) and Twitter (@accppediprn) accounts. Check them out for creative content including literature updates, polling questions and sub-specialty themed months of content.

Nominations Committee: Currently seeking nominations for the chair-elect and secretary/treasurer positions. More information on how to apply/nominate an active PRN member, together with descriptions of the respective offices, has been e-mailed to PRN members and is also posted to our website and social media outlets.

Nominations Committee: To continue to recognize the PRN members’ work, the PRN is also excited to continue awards for PRN Outstanding Practitioner and PRN Achievement. Please consider nominating deserving colleagues for each of these awards. Nominations and materials will be due early August, so look for award and deadline information in early summer. All awards will be presented at the PRN Business Meeting at the ACCP Annual Meeting in October. Congratulations to our 2018 recipients: Peter (Pete) N. Johnson (2018 PRN Outstanding Practitioner) and Elizabeth Farrington (2018 PRN Achievement).

Perioperative Care PRN

Members of the Perioperative Care PRN continue to work on outreach to increase awareness about the role a pharmacist can play in the perioperative care setting. Publication efforts on the role of the perioperative pharmacist are led by esteemed members Sara Jordan-Hyland, Gourang Patel, and Kara Birrer. Chair-elect Eric Johnson has been hard at work on creating our 2019 focus session on perioperative anticoagulation management.

Pharmacokinetics/Pharmacodynamics/Pharmacogenomics PRN

The Pharmacokinetics/Pharmacodynamics/Pharmacogenomics (PK/PD/PG) PRN led the multi-PRN Opinion Paper “Application of precision medicine across pharmacy specialty areas,” which has been accepted for publication in JACCP. In the fall, we will be collaborating with the Global Health PRN to deliver a focus session for the 2019 ACCP Annual Meeting tentatively titled “Precision Medicine in Diverse Populations: Global Considerations for Pharmacogenomics.” The PRN is hoping to increase its visibility to colleagues and students on social media, so be sure to follow us on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn.
