PRNs to Host Business Meetings and Networking Forums at 2012 Annual Meeting

ACCP’s PRNs provide a focal point for clinical pharmacists with common interests and needs in practice, research, and education. Each PRN hosts a business meeting and networking forum at the Annual Meeting. All meeting registrants are invited to attend these events.

Monday, October 22, 2012

6:00 p.m.–9:00 p.m.

Adult Medicine

Join us for our business and networking meeting while you enjoy hors d’oeuvres and beverages. During the meeting, you will have an opportunity to interact with your colleagues and the PRN officers as well as sign up for committees within the PRN. Presentations will include an update of PRN activities, reports from PRN officers, and the PRN’s research award winners.

Cardiology

The Cardiology PRN annual business meeting serves as a networking opportunity for meeting attendees who share a practice-focus or specific interest in cardiovascular pharmacotherapy and practice. After a brief business component, an informal reception will follow to facilitate networking among new and old members and collaboration on PRN-related projects.

Education and Training

After our business meeting, a brief discussion on interviewing skills will take place. Clinical faculty and practitioners from around the nation will then conduct practice interviews for students getting ready to apply for jobs or residencies and for residents and fellows getting ready to apply to their first career positions. All educators, students, and postgraduate trainees are invited to attend.

Emergency Medicine

Join the Emergency Medicine PRN at our annual business meeting. We will present our activities from the previous year and will begin planning for upcoming events in 2012 and 2013. If you would like to become more involved with the PRN (perhaps join a committee) or would just like to learn more about our activities, please plan to attend and bring a colleague.

Endocrine and Metabolism

The Endocrine and Metabolism PRN will hold a business meeting and networking forum to solicit membership and enhance resident/student participation. The scheduled activities include a roundtable discussion and the PRN’s annual business meeting, with a planned networking event to follow.

Geriatrics

Please join the Geriatrics PRN business meeting for an informal reception of networking, planning, and socializing. All who are interested in the care of older adults are welcome. Light snacks and beverages will be served.

Infectious Diseases

Please join us for our Infectious Diseases PRN business meeting and networking forum to find out how you can get involved.

Nephrology 

All ACCP members interested in nephrology are invited to attend and participate in this networking forum and business meeting. There will be a business report, a discussion of current and future projects and initiatives, a presentation by the recipient of the Nephrology PRN Travel Award, and networking opportunities. Snacks and beverages will be provided.

Pain and Palliative Care

Please join the Pain and Palliative Care PRN for a brief business meeting and an opportunity to network with colleagues. Our PRN will conduct three roundtable discussions focusing on topics that affect pain management: development of a pharmacist-led inpatient acute care pain management service, collaborative research topics, and pharmacist-led strategies to prevent opioid misuse, abuse, and diversion (discuss CMS and various state strategies for reducing drug diversion). In addition, we will hear from our three travel award recipients, who will share their posters as outlined below:

Pediatrics

The Pediatrics PRN welcomes current and prospective members for an informal networking reception and business meeting. Attendees will enjoy a brief presentation from the recipient of our new travel award and receive an update on the progress of pediatric board certification. An opportunity to get involved with committees will also be available.

Pharmacokinetics/Pharmacodynamics/Pharmacogenomics

Please join us for our business meeting and networking forum. We will update members about the activity of the group, introduce the new officers, and offer a networking opportunity for group members and any practitioner/researcher who is interested in learning more about PK/PD/Pharmacogenomics in clinical practice and research.

Ambulatory Care

Participants will join colleagues for an interactive, informative, yet fun-filled time of activities designed to update them on the state of affairs of the PRN while they are networking and sharing with fellow PRN members. Members will not want to miss this forum. Grab a friend and come on out to connect with the Ambulatory Care PRN.

Central Nervous System

Please join the CNS PRN for a business meeting and networking session. Light snacks will be served. The winner of the Student Travel Award will make a presentation of his or her research project.

Clinical Administration

Anyone interested in issues related to clinical leadership and practice management is cordially invited to join our PRN business meeting and networking forum. Refreshments will be provided.

Critical Care

Join us for the Critical Care PRN networking forum and business meeting and interact with colleagues while you enjoy hors d’oeuvres and beverages. Presentations will include a summary of PRN activities, reports from PRN officers, and the Resident/Fellow Research Travel Award.

Drug Information

The Drug Information PRN will hold a business meeting and networking forum for current and prospective members. The meeting will include an update of PRN activities as well as provide an opportunity to meet the officers and other PRN members and become involved with the PRN.

GI/Liver/Nutrition

The meeting will consist of business pertaining to the PRN and will include networking opportunities in addition to the presentation of a resident or fellow research project.

Health Outcomes

Please join the Health Outcomes PRN for a business meeting and networking session. Light hors d’oeuvres will be served. The meeting is open to current members as well as others interested in the field of health outcomes.

Immunology/Transplantation

Please join the Immunology/Transplantation PRN for its business meeting and networking forum. Anyone who is interested in transplantation is welcome to attend. The business meeting will consist of installing new officers, discussing current and future PRN initiatives, and honoring the recipient of our PRN Resident/Fellow Travel Award. The meeting will conclude with a debate by current transplant specialty residents on a hot issue in transplantation. Supported by a grant from CSL Behring.
