Nahata Elected to the Institute of Medicine

Milap Nahata, Pharm.D., FCCP

The Institute of Medicine (IOM) of the National Academies has elected to membership former ACCP President Milap Nahata, Pharm.D., FCCP. Dr. Nahata is Professor of Pharmacy and Chair of the Division of Pharmacy Practice and Administration at The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy. On October 14, the Institute announced the names of 65 new members and 5 foreign associates in conjunction with its 38th annual meeting. Election to the IOM is considered one of the highest honors in the fields of health and medicine; it recognizes individuals who have demonstrated outstanding professional achievement and commitment to service. “It is a great pleasure to welcome these distinguished and influential individuals to the Institute of Medicine,” said IOM President Harvey V. Fineberg. “Members are elected through a highly selective process that recognizes people who have made major contributions to the advancement of the medical sciences, health care, and public health.”

Dr. Nahata has made outstanding contributions to the profession during the course of his career at Ohio State and has served as president of ACCP and the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy. He has previously been recognized with four national research achievement awards, two national distinguished educator awards, and election to Fellow status by five professional and scientific societies, including ACCP. Dr. Nahata is the first pharmacist to be elected to the IOM from the state of Ohio and joins a highly select group of IOM pharmacist members.
