Target Audience

Oncology Pharmacists

Goals

The Oncology Genomics Certificate Program is an interactive, practice-based program designed to help clinical pharmacists develop skills in interpreting genomic reports, developing treatment plans based on genomic data and interacting with an interprofessional molecular oncology team.

Learning Objectives:

1. Demonstrate appropriate use of basic genetic concepts and nomenclature, and how genetic variation contributes to interindividual variability in drug response.
2. Apply genomic knowledge to evaluate genomic reports and develop therapeutic plans.
3. Demonstrate the ability to participate in an interprofessional molecular oncology team to interpret molecular testing results and develop a therapeutic plan.
4. Demonstrate the ability to educate patients and health care professionals about the principles of clinical pharmacogenomics, including clinical utility, cost-effectiveness, reimbursement; and ethical, legal, and social implications of pharmacogenomic testing.

Requisites

Learner must complete:

• the asynchronous online portions of the program consist of completing online exercises and preparing cases for presentation.  Participants should expect to spend 9 hours completing these activities outside of the course.
• the live portion of the program, delivered virtually, will include 11 hours of interactive presentations, case-based learning activities, and participant discussions.

Technical Requirements

A computer with a high-speed internet connection and audio is necessary. A webcam is preferred, but not required. An up-to-date internet browser (e.g., Chrome, Safari, Edge, Firefox) and Zoom conferencing software are required to participate in Zoom sessions.

Instructional Design

A combination of live (virtually, synchronous) lectures and online (asynchronous) exercises/assignments will encourage participants to interact with instructors and peers for an enhanced educational experience. The online content will be accessible through Canvas by Instructure. The live content will be delivered via Zoom at various times throughout the course. The curricular basis for the program, length of modules (contact hours), and practice opportunities are outlined in the schedule below.

Faculty Expertise
Program faculty, led by Program Director Jill Kolesar, developed the curriculum to address program outcomes. Faculty divided content presentations according to their respective areas of expertise/practice. Presentation platforms, practice opportunities, assessments, and feedback were all developed by the faculty to maximize convenience of flip-classroom teaching and live team-based learning. Guest faculty with specific expertise will contribute to the program with case presentations and discussion facilitation.

New for 2023! A new session on strategies for implementing a Molecular Tumor Board will be presented.

The means of communication for this program will be via the learning management system, Canvas for Instructure (for pre-recorded modules) or Zoom (for live modules). Throughout the entire program, the instructors are available by email or phone to answer questions and provide feedback.

Content and learning materials will be reviewed prior to and after each offering of the activity.

Activity Evaluation

Electronic program evaluations will be performed at the conclusion of the program and required prior to issuing certificates and CPE.

Participant Evaluation

To receive continuing pharmacy education credit and a certificate upon completion of the program, participants must receive a 70% or better on each of the exercises, attend all of the program-specific online synchronous content, and attend the 11 live sessions (via Zoom).  Two attempts will be allowed for each graded exercise.

Program Practice Activities and Assessments:
Each module/week runs from Tuesday through Monday. See the separate schedule for weekly details and due dates. The activities and assessments in this program include: 

        Live Video Chats: Attend eleven live video chats (via Zoom) 

        Exercises: Complete online exercises for the specified modules.
Each exercise is due at the end of the week. (Note: Each module/week runs from Tuesday through Monday.)

• Attend and participate in program-specific live content (see schedule below). 
• Prepare and present a case at mock MTB session during one live video chat.
• Complete the online final course evaluation PRIOR to May 30, 2023. 

CPE Credit

Successful completion of all of the requisites no later than May 30, 2023 will provide 20.0 contact hours of practice-based continuing pharmacy education (9 hours home-study, 11 hours live) and a certificate to place in one’s workplace.

To achieve the stated program outcomes the activity is designed to be completed in its entirety. No continuing education credit will be given for partial completion of the activity.
