Clinical Reasoning Series in Pharmacotherapy, 2019 Home Study Edition

It’s All in the Head: Updates in Neuropsychiatric Pharmacotherapy in the Big and Small

Series Overview

Clinical Reasoning Series in Pharmacotherapy has been approved by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties for recertification of Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialists (BCPSs) and for recertification of Board Certified Pediatric Pharmacy Specialists (BCPPSs).

Both BCPSs and BCPPSs are involved in the management of patients affected by substance abuse, particularly opioids and alcohol. These specialists are often responsible for the provision of services in both the inpatient and outpatient settings where they develop and monitor drug therapy regimens for the acute and chronic sequela of substance abuse. Headache, too, is a common and often underappreciated condition in adult and pediatric populations. As new treatment modalities are identified to treat headache and migraine, BCPSs and BCPPSs must be able to identify evidence-based strategies to manage these conditions. Given the prevalence of substance abuse and headache, the impact of these conditions on patient quality of life, and the complexity of managing these conditions in special populations, this program will address current evidence-based strategies and summarize their place in contemporary patient care. The program will consist of two educational activities: one addressing substance abuse, the second addressing headache/migraine.
