International Continuing Education Program on Clinical Pharmacy Services and Their Impact on Patient Outcomes to Be Offered in Dubai

In support of the efforts of local health care officials, administrators, and pharmacists to advance clinical pharmacy practice in the Gulf and Middle East region, the American College of Clinical Pharmacy will offer a program in conjunction with the GCC Pharmaceutical Congress to be held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. This program, titled “Clinical Pharmacy Services and Their Impact on Patient Outcomes: Focus on Diabetes Mellitus,” will be offered as a 1-day symposium.

This symposium, to take place on September 17, 2014, will deliver 6.0 contact hours of high-quality programming that advances the participant’s knowledge of patient-centered services provided by clinical pharmacists. Type 2 diabetes mellitus, a major and rising health concern in the region, will be used as the illustrative area of practice. At the end of the symposium, participants should be able to:

  1. Discuss patient-centered services provided by clinical pharmacists and the outcomes of such services
  2. Compare and contrast the currently marketed pharmacologic options for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus
  3. Outline strategies for the prevention and mitigation of adverse effects associated with the currently marketed pharmacologic agents
  4. Summarize the most up-to-date recommendations for the optimal management of type 2 diabetes mellitus
  5. Identify and assess the effectiveness of services and activities that advance clinical pharmacy practice and optimize patient outcomes
