A Message from the Editor

Dear Colleagues:

In the last issue of ACCP International Clinical Pharmacist, the featured article focused on the professional development of the pharmacy practice faculty member. Of note is that in some nations or intuitions in a nation, the faculty member practices and provides care to patients at a health system or organization that partners with the employing academic institution. The article titled “Innovation Through Education–Practice Partnerships” discusses barriers and opportunities for stimulating innovation in clinical pharmacy training, practice, and research through academic–practice partnerships.

As I take part in international pharmacy meetings and activities around the globe and meet with pharmacy educators and practitioners, it is evident that, although we might be at different points on a spectrum, we all face the same challenges: limited resources to promote innovation, need to advance practice sites and expand pharmacist services, and need to train the future practitioner and prepare the workforce for new roles. Innovators and professional leaders are essential contributors to identifying strategies and overcoming such challenges. As such, I trust that all international pharmacy leaders and practitioners will find the commentary highlighted in this issue of relevance and value.

The title featured in “Book Highlights” represents the only comprehensive text on critical care pharmacotherapy that is developed by clinical pharmacists. It is a key resource for all practitioners and educators in the critical care field.

Finally, on a personal note and on behalf of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP), I want to thank each and every colleague who attended and took part in the various activities of the 2015 ACCP Global Conference on Clinical Pharmacy, which took place October 17–21 in San Francisco, California. It was a great pleasure to see old friends and meet new ones in the shades of the Golden Gate Bridge. ACCP is proud of the record attendance and grateful to everyone who contributed to the conference by sharing his/her expertise, experiences, and perspectives. I hope to see many of you at future ACCP meetings.

Sincerely,

Wafa Y. Dahdal, Pharm.D., BCPS
