Travel Awards Promote Student and Resident/Fellow Meeting Attendance

ACCP initiated its Student Travel Awards and Resident/Fellow Travel Awards programs to support and encourage student, resident, and fellow, attendance at ACCP national meetings as well as to expand opportunities for students and postgraduate trainees throughout the organization. To date, ACCP has awarded more than $52,000 in travel stipends and complimentary meeting registrations. In addition, many PRNs are now offering their own travel awards for students, residents, and fellows, providing even more opportunities for attendees to apply for funding to defray the costs associated with attending the Annual Meeting. ACCP thanks the following PRNs and chapters for either donating funds to ACCP Travel Awards programs or sponsoring their own travel awards:

  • Adult Medicine
  • Ambulatory Care
  • Cardiology

ACCP Formally Establishes Student Chapters

ACCP is pleased to announce that schools and colleges of pharmacy can now submit an application to form an officially recognized ACCP student chapter. Because of the growing interest in clinical pharmacy, the ACCP Board of Regents seeks to expand opportunities for student involvement in the College by formally recognizing student chapters. Students can benefit from ACCP membership in many ways, including:

  • Leadership development experiences (as student liaisons and as members of the National Student Network Advisory Committee);
  • Options to explore clinical pharmacy specialties (by taking advantage of complimentary student membership in up to two PRNs);
  • Opportunities to expand and showcase their knowledge (through scientific poster presentations and the Clinical Pharmacy Challenge); and
  • Career development guidance (through the CV Review Service, the Emerge from the Crowd: How to Become a Standout Residency Candidate sessions, and career development programming at national meetings).

Creating a student chapter is a great way to help pharmacy students learn about clinical pharmacy and become involved in ACCP. Any ACCP College of Pharmacy Faculty Liaison can establish a formally recognized student chapter by submitting an official chapter application. If the application is approved, the liaison will be invited to serve as the primary faculty adviser for the student chapter. For complete information on establishing a student chapter, and to download a New ACCP Chapter Application, please visit http://www.accp.com/stunet/studentliaisons.aspx. Questions about student chapters can be addressed to Jon Poynter at [email protected].

ACCP’s Popular On-Demand Curriculum Vitae Review Service Returns

As the clinical pharmacy profession continues to experience an increase in demand and competition for residency positions and first-rate jobs, it is vital that students and postgraduate trainees have a well-written CV. An effective CV provides a positive image for future selection of committees or employers, and it distinguishes an individual from the rest of the crowd. As questions arise in preparing and completing a CV, wouldn’t it be helpful to have a seasoned professional review it?

ACCP student, resident, and fellow members can now submit their CV online as a Microsoft Word document and have it randomly assigned to a volunteer ACCP member reviewer. The ACCP reviewer will provide his or her comments and suggested edits using the track changes feature of Microsoft Word. Participants will receive an e-mail containing feedback from the reviewer within 2 weeks. In response to feedback from past users, ACCP has made two important changes to the service. First, the CV Review Service will be open year-round so that you can upload your CV for review anytime you choose. In addition, after receiving feedback on your CV from an initial reviewer, you can now upload your CV to be reviewed by a second reviewer.

When preparing a CV for review, be sure to take advantage of ACCP’s other Web-based resources. Learn or review the basics of CV formatting, view sample CVs, and access valuable “curriculum vitae pearls,” which provide practical insights in developing a CV. These services and other resources are accessible from the ACCP Web site at http://www.accp.com/stunet/cv.aspx.

For questions about the ACCP CV Review Service, contact Michelle Kucera, Pharm.D., BCPS, at [email protected].
