Postgraduate Trainee Initiatives Update

Residents, Fellows, and Graduate Students

Experts in Training: All resident, fellow, and graduate student members of ACCP receive a monthly electronic newsletter titled Experts in Training that highlights membership benefits, important dates, and advice from other residents. During the past year, this has also included a Q&A section that allows a resident to ask a question of a more experienced ACCP member. The answers to these questions are housed on the ACCP Web site (www.accp.com/resfel/newsletter.aspx).

ACCP Mentoring Program: This unique program allows all postgraduate trainee members of ACCP to search for and select a mentor from our database of ACCP volunteer members. We currently have 123 ACCP mentors! Once trainees have selected a mentor, they are encouraged to correspond with their mentor at least monthly throughout their training year. ACCP supports mentors and mentees with monthly e-mails of potential topics for discussion. Opportunities and resources offered by ACCP are also included in the monthly correspondence.

New Programming at the Annual Meeting: ACCP has expanded its Annual Meeting educational programming for residents, fellows, and graduate students to include the following: Chart the Course of Your Professional Future, an Annual Meeting symposium designed to provide residents with vital career development skills and a foundation in navigating their professional future. Led by nationally recognized faculty, this premeeting symposium will include topics such as facilitating professional development, setting up a new clinical practice, taking a scholarly approach to clinical practice, developing a personal strategic plan, and managing conflict.

In addition to our long-standing Career Path Roundtable Session, a new Professional Development Roundtable Session will be offered exclusively for postgraduate trainees. The Professional Development Roundtable Session will focus on topics that guide early practitioners through several career transitions, including precepting, shared faculty positions, board certification, journal refereeing, and clinical and multicenter research.
