A Message from the Editor

Dear Colleagues:

As clinical pharmacy practice continues to evolve and pharmacists’ provision of direct patient care services increases, a critical issue for clinicians and health system administrators around the globe will be to ensure the competency of the pharmacist workforce leading and delivering such services. The featured article in this issue of ACCP International Clinical Pharmacist, “ACCP Clinical Pharmacist Competencies and Template for Evaluating Clinical Pharmacists,” reports on two ACCP papers of great significance to the professional development of clinical pharmacists.

The Book Highlights department of this issue features Nourishing the Soul of Pharmacy: Stories of Reflection. This one-of-a-kind publication offers unique stories of self-reflection on the pharmacist’s role, the humanistic aspect of patient care, and professionalism. The book is a great read for practitioners, educators, clinical preceptors, students, and other health care professionals seeking a better understanding of the pharmacy profession. This is particularly true as the profession continues to shift toward patient-centered care.

Clinical pharmacists, pharmacologists, and researchers are highly encouraged to submit their work and research for presentation at the poster sessions during the 2017 ACCP Annual Meeting, to be held in Phoenix, Arizona, October 7−10, 2017. The poster sessions offer a rich experience for presenters and meeting attendees alike. In addition, accepted abstracts in most categories will be published in Pharmacotherapy—ACCP’s official journal. This is a unique professional benefit afforded to poster presenters. The article titled “Submit Abstracts by June 15 for Presentation at the 2017 ACCP Annual Meeting” provides additional information on abstract categories and submission deadlines. I wish the best of luck to each of you who submit your work and hope to see many of you at the poster sessions.

Sincerely,

Wafa Y. Dahdal, Pharm.D., BCPS
