Nourishing the Soul of Pharmacy: Stories of Reflection is uniquely designed to stimulate reflective inquiry that enhances the pharmacist’s empathy for patients and elicits deeper bonds among practitioners.
The book features 69 stories of reflection written by pharmacists and pharmacy students. Pharmacy practitioners and educators at various career levels practicing in an array of settings and providing a multitude of educational and patient care services share experiences from their daily practice. Focus is placed on patient encounters that lead to complex insight of the pharmacist’s role and enhanced patient care and empathy.

In addition, the book offers two appendices to assist educators and clinical preceptors in optimizing value and professionalism in their teaching. The first appendix focuses on reflection as a learning strategy. It includes resources, including rubrics for reflection essays and value, as a component of intercultural knowledge and competence, criteria for reflecting on personal growth, and practice activities. The second appendix focuses on developing student professionalism. It highlights the traits of professionalism and the ways in which they relate to the patient-pharmacist fiducial or covenantal relationship.
