Abstract
Introduction: The most common type of venomous snakes in Texas are pit vipers, which belong to the subfamily Crotalinae. Crotalidae equine immune F(ab’)2 is one of the two available antivenom products in the United States. The package insert for F(ab’)2 recommends the antivenom be administered over 60 minutes, beginning at a slower infusion rate of 25-50 ml/hr to monitor for anaphylactic reactions. At CHRISTUS Health, administration instructions vary based on professional discretion.
Research Question or Hypothesis: To evaluate whether administering crotalidae equine immune F(ab’)2 in seventy minutes or less leads to a higher rate of adverse events compared to infusing it over more than seventy minutes
Study Design: Retrospective, singe-center
Methods: A retrospective chart review will be conducted on hospitalized adult patients at CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital – Tyler who received crotalidae equine immune F(ab’)2 from January 1, 2018, to December 31, 2023. Patients who were pregnant, received crotalidae ovine polyvalent immune Fab within 24 hours of crotalidae equine immune F(ab’)2, or were in prison at the time will be excluded from this study. Data will be analyzed using Microsoft Excel and descriptive statistics utilized.
Results: To be presented at conference
Conclusion: To be presented at conference
