Abstract
The Critical Care (CC) PRN was contacted in January 2024 by Pharmacotherapy Publications, Inc., the journal publishing arm of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy, with the opportunity to develop a virtual-themed issue. The purpose of the themed issue was to highlight fifteen manuscripts previously published in the Journal of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (JACCP) or Pharmacotherapy that were important to CC pharmacy practice. A timeline was developed to meet a publication date of September 2024. Thirteen CC PRN members convened after invitations were sent out to the CC PRN Programming and Executive Committee to identify volunteers. All manuscripts from issues published from 2018-2023 in JACCP and Pharmacotherapy were screened for CC related content. A total of 163 unique CC related publications were identified. A scoring rubric was developed to rate each manuscript to be considered for inclusion in the themed issue which evaluated content novelty and relevance to CC pharmacy practice, impact of the manuscript, rigor of the scientific method employed, and applicability to critically ill populations. Each manuscript was scored and the top 25% (n=41) moved to a second round for review. In the second round, each work group member ranked the top manuscripts (n=41) via an online survey based on their perception of impact of the work on CC pharmacy practice using an ordinal scale. From this survey, the top fifteen scoring manuscripts were included. The work group reviewed and approved the final list of manuscripts for the CC themed issue. Summaries were written to describe the themed issue and each manuscript. Members of the work group were recognized as guest editors of the CC themed issue. Pharmacotherapy Publications, Inc. partnering with PRNs to develop themed issues is a novel way to engage members and highlight publications related to specialty areas.
