Abstract
This poster will present the results of a survey conducted by the ACCP Ambulatory Care Practice and Research Network (PRN) in Fall 2024 to explore the current billing practices, barriers, and future plans of its members. The survey aims to capture a comprehensive overview of billing mechanisms, challenges, and strategic plans across diverse practice settings.
Survey questions were designed to assess members' current billing practices for clinical services, including the types of services billed (e.g., office visits, telehealth services, medication therapy management) and the mix of payers involved (e.g., Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurance). Respondents will also be asked to identify barriers faced in billing for clinical services, such as the lack of provider status, credentialing support, billing knowledge, and administrative complexities. Additionally, the survey explores members' confidence and knowledge in billing and reimbursement mechanisms, as well as any formal training or education received in these areas.
The results will be compared with data from a similar survey conducted in 2018 to identify trends and shifts in billing practices over the past six years. This comparative analysis will highlight changes in the adoption of various billing mechanisms, the evolution of perceived barriers, and the progress made toward achieving financial sustainability for clinical services. The comparison will also provide insights into how legislative changes, advances in telehealth, and growing recognition of pharmacists' roles may have impacted billing practices.
