This session will explore the evolving landscape of ambulatory care practice, with a focus on the discussion of provider status vs. expanding services, highlighting innovative practice models (e.g., telehealth visits, group visits, shared medical appointments, annual wellness visits, and community-based interventions), and addressing the complexities of different billing models with practical examples. This session breaks down into three dynamic parts: 1) Provider Status vs. Expanded Practice – Unpack the pros and cons of these two paths and explore how they shape the future of ambulatory pharmacy. 2) Innovative Practice Models – Gain insights into cutting-edge approaches and actionable strategies to enhance patient outcomes. 3) Billing Made Practical – Navigate the complexities of billing through real-world examples and case studies to improve financial sustainability in your practice., followed by Q&A.

Learning Objectives

1. Contrast expanded pharmacy services with pharmacist provider status, with a focus on sustainability, patient access, and reimbursement opportunities.

2. Describe the current landscape of pharmacist provider status recognition at the state (this could be generally) vs federal level.

3. Analyze the impact of innovative pharmacy practice models on patient care outcomes and pharmacy reimbursement.

4. Apply ambulatory care billing models to specific scenarios while demonstrating the role of documentation in supporting reimbursement for pharmacist services.
