Available for 1.50 hours of CPE creditActivity Number: 0217-0000-25-131-L02-PActivity Type: A Knowledge-Based ActivityCommunity pharmacists play a crucial role in improving health outcomes and bridging gaps in access to care for people living with HIV (PLWH). Many states allow pharmacists to prescribe and dispense pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP), enhancing the impact on HIV prevention. However, barriers to care—such as medication adherence, education, and access—are common challenges faced by PLWH, and community pharmacists can help address these issues. Along with the introduction of these long-acting injectable antiretroviral treatments, community pharmacists have an important role to play in HIV management by providing enhanced care via administration and sustainable billing practices. This joint PRN focus session of the Community-Based and HIV PRNs will reinforce current HIV therapeutic concepts while equipping pharmacists with practical tools to overcome barriers and maximize community pharmacists’ impact in the HIV care continuum.
Learning Objectives1. Outline antiretroviral therapies available for PrEP, PEP and treatment (long-acting injectables).
2. Recognize common implementation barriers to care for people living with HIV (PLWH).
3. Discuss strategies to overcome common implementation barriers to care for PLWH.
4. Describe community-based processes promoting billing and sustainability.
