Available for 1.50 hours of CPE creditActivity Number: 0217-0000-25-138-L01-PActivity Type: An Application-Based ActivityThis presentation will provide an update on recent nutrition support literature including infectious complications with parenteral nutrition, supplemental parenteral nutrition, lipid injectable emulsion product selection and administration concerns. The 2022 ASPEN Critical Care Nutrition Support guidelines, the 2023 ESPEN Clinical Nutrition Guidelines for Critically Ill Patients, and implications for future guidelines will be discussed. Management strategies for patients transitioning between levels of care and parenteral nutrition-related drug shortages will also be reviewed.
Learning Objectives1. Evaluate data regarding infection risk with parenteral nutrition.
2. Compare lipid injectable emulsion products for use in parenteral nutrition.
3. Formulate a nutrition plan utilizing ASPEN and ESPEN critical care nutrition support guidelines.
4. Create pathways for safe transitions of care for patients receiving parenteral nutrition.
5. Identify adverse effects that can occur as a result of nutrition support product shortages.
6. Develop best practices for managing parenteral nutrition-related drug shortages.
