The Education and Training PRN Educational Programming Committee presents an informative evidence-based session focused on artificial intelligence (AI) and its role in pharmacy education. AI is a branch of computer science that enables machines to perform tasks that typically require human intelligence like problem-solving, pattern recognition, and decision-making. AI technologies have the potential to improve efficiency, accuracy, and personalization in every sector. Focusing on education and healthcare, AI is swiftly transforming practice as we work to understand how to effectively and responsibly use and leverage its capabilities. In turn, it is essential that we provide the necessary framework to prepare future pharmacists for contemporary real-world practice. In this session, speakers from both academia and clinical practice will lead the audience in a review of AI in the context of pharmacy education. This session will highlight examples of AI integration into pharmacy education, explore challenges and benefits, and describe actionable strategies to integrate AI into experiential pharmacy education.

Learning Objectives

1. Summarize the historical evolution and application of artificial intelligence (AI) in pharmacy education.

2. Discuss the implications of AI on current educational practices.

3. Review AI implementation for introductory and advanced pharmacy practice experiences (IPPEs and APPEs).

4. Describe the successes of academic pharmacists who have incorporated AI into IPPEs and APPEs.

5. Explain the challenges of academic pharmacists who have incorporated AI into IPPEs and APPEs.

6. Outline student-centered applications of AI for experiential education in the future.
