Learn MoreAvailable for 1.50 hours of CPE creditActivity Number: 0204-9999-25-340-L01-PActivity Type: An Application-Based ActivityThis session aims to equip pharmacists and other healthcare professionals with the knowledge and tools necessary to improve outcomes and approaches in patients with drug-induced hyperthermia (DIH). Participants will learn about the pathophysiology of select DIH syndromes, most common causes, and the clinical presentations that require rapid intervention. The discussion will emphasize the pharmacist’s critical contributions, including identifying high-risk medications, recommending evidence-based treatments, and optimizing medication regimens to reduce recurrence.
This activity is approved for Board Certified Emergency Medicine Pharmacist (BCEMP) and Board Certified Critical Care (BCCCP) recertification credit.
The BCEMP and BCCCP Clinical Sessions are part of the professional development program for the recertification of board-certified Emergency Medicine or Critical Care pharmacists by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties and jointly provided by ACCP and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP). In order to earn the BCEMP, BCCCP recertification credit, participants must attend the session, claim the continuing pharmacy education credit, and pass the associated posttest. Access to the Clinical Sessions posttests will be available on December 17, 2025, at www.accp.com/myaccount to anyone who has purchased access to the BCEMP/BCCCP posttests. For participants who have not purchased access to the posttests, access can be purchased until 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 21, at the ACCP Registration Desk. The deadline to submit posttests for these sessions will be December 15, 2026.
Learning Objectives1. Recognize the signs and symptoms of drug-induced hyperthermia and its associated risk factors.
2. Define the pharmacist’s role in drug-induced hyperthermia management and prevention.
3. Develop streamlined processes for the identification and continued treatment of drug-induced hyperthermia in clinical settings.
4. Describe the role of a drug-induced hyperthermia response team.
