Tuesday, October 21, 2025 from 10:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. CDT at Great Lakes AB, 4th Floor
Available for 1.50 hours of CPE creditActivity Number: 0217-0000-25-129-L01-PActivity Type: An Application-Based ActivityThis engaging session centers around four diverse cardiovascular cases with controversial data. Topics include the role of guideline-directed medical therapy in heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF), innovations in the medication management of cardiac amyloidosis, management of anticoagulation in patients requiring extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), and the most effective means of conducting transitions of care activities in CV patients. Presentations have been designed to facilitate dynamic discussions by moving away from the usual lecture format to create space for audience and panel interactions and ending with a 10-minute Q&A and panel discussion. The cases have been intentionally selected to demonstrate real examples of patient-specific decision-making in situations where evidence and/or recommendations are not always clear.
Learning Objectives1. Compare the magnitude and mechanism(s) of clinical benefit of different medication options for a patient with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF).
2. Design an anticoagulation therapy and monitoring plan for a patient on veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA ECMO).
3. Evaluate primary literature supporting the value of new medications for cardiac amyloidosis in comparison to the current standard of care.
4. Analyze existing evidence regarding various pharmacist-led transitions of care activities and prioritize them accordingly.
