Available for 1.50 hours of CPE credit
Activity Number: 0217-0000-25-147-L01-P
Activity Type: A Knowledge-Based Activity

Join the Pulmonary, Health Equity, and Women's Health PRNs for an evidence-based session addressing critical intersections of pregnancy and pulmonary conditions, with emphasis on addressing systemic health disparities. Clinical pharmacists will gain practical knowledge on managing respiratory conditions during pregnancy, including physiological adaptations, acute/chronic disease management, and contraception counseling for high-risk patients. Topics include asthma management, pulmonary embolism prevention, and medication safety considerations for high risk respiratory conditions, which may include cystic fibrosis, pulmonary hypertension and interstitial lung disease. This collaborative session supports ACCP's mission to advance equitable pharmacy practice through evidence-based care that optimizes maternal and fetal health outcomes.

Learning Objectives

1. Describe physiological changes in lung function during pregnancy and their clinical implications.

2. Outline evidence-based strategies for managing respiratory conditions while ensuring maternal-fetal safety.

3. Select safe medication management plans for chronic pulmonary conditions in persons with childbearing potential, incorporating appropriate monitoring parameters and risk mitigation strategies.

4. Summarize appropriate contraception counseling for patients with high-risk pulmonary conditions.

5. Review pulmonary embolism risk factors and evidence-based prevention strategies for pregnant patients with respiratory conditions.

6. Discuss patient-centered care plans that address health disparities in maternal health outcomes.
