Available for 1.50 hours of CPE creditActivity Number: 0217-0000-25-125-L01-PActivity Type: A Knowledge-Based ActivityThe Infectious Disease (ID) PRN education session focuses on important changes in the practice of ID pharmacy that have evolved over recent years owing to environmental changes, the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare, changes in available resources for antimicrobial stewardship, and challenges with supply chain disruptions. Speakers discuss management of zoonotic and tick-borne illnesses, preparing for and responding to drug and supply shortages, and employing various types of antimicrobial stewardship extenders. The purpose of this session is to identify ways in which clinicians can adapt to new challenges in the practice of ID and implement evolving practice standards.
Learning Objectives1. List emerging organisms that are becoming more commonly encountered in the setting of climate change.
2. Select appropriate management strategies and antimicrobial therapy when available or appropriate for tick-borne and zoonotic diseases.
3. Describe the impact of drug shortages and supply chain disruptions on provision of optimized antimicrobial therapy and infection diagnosis.
4. Review potential mitigation strategies to respond to drug shortages and supply chain disruptions affecting infection management and stewardship efforts.
5. Discuss the expanding role of artificial intelligence (AI) in antimicrobial stewardship.
6. Identify stewardship interventions where participation from staff pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare personnel can be incorporated.
