Available for 1.50 hours of CPE creditActivity Type: An Application-Based ActivityPharmacy practice is filled with long-held beliefs and practices that, while widely accepted, may not always be supported by current evidence. In this interactive session, we will uncover the truth behind common myths and misconceptions in clinical pharmacy by introducing prevalent myths related to alcohol use disorder treatment, antibiotic selection, and QTc prolongation, then critically reviewing the supporting and opposing literature, and applying evidence-based findings to patient case scenarios. Through a combination of presentations and case-based discussions, attendees will actively engage in evaluating clinical practices, questioning assumptions, and developing strategies to educate colleagues and patients effectively. By the end of the session, participants will be equipped with the skills to integrate the most accurate and up-to-date information into their daily practice to ensure optimal patient care.
Learning Objectives1. Evaluate the safety and efficacy of naltrexone in patients with liver disease to guide appropriate, evidencebased prescribing.
2. Address the routine use of vitamin supplementation in patients with alcohol use disorder.
3. Explain the clinical significance of the cefazolin inoculum effect.
4. Differentiate between patient populations with MSSA infections who may benefit from cefazolin versus antistaphylococcal penicillins.
5. Evaluate the limitations of automated QTc measurement.
6. Examine the role of implanted cardiac devices in mitigating the risk of torsades de pointes and other QT-related arrhythmias.
