This educational session will equip pharmacists with a comprehensive understanding of minimal residual disease (MRD) and its evolving role in leukemia management across pediatric and adult populations. The session will review MRD testing methodologies, result interpretation, and evidence supporting MRD-guided therapy selection, sequencing, and duration, emphasizing the pharmacist’s role in optimizing pharmacotherapy, supporting interprofessional decision-making, and improving patient outcomes across practice settings.

The BCOP and BCPPS Clinical Sessions are part of the professional development program for the recertification of board-certified Oncology or Pediatric pharmacists by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties and jointly provided by ACCP and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP). To earn BCOP and/or BCPPS recertification credit, participants must attend the session, claim continuing pharmacy education credit, and pass the associated posttest(s). Access to the Clinical Session posttests will be available on December 16, 2026, at www.accp.com/myaccount to anyone who has purchased access to the BCOP and/or BCPPS posttests. For participants who have not purchased access to the posttests, access can be purchased until 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20th, at the ACCP Registration Desk. The deadline to submit posttests for these sessions will be December 14, 2027.

Learning Objectives

1. Discuss detection methodologies used to determine MRD in pediatric and adult leukemia, including clinical advantages and limitations relevant to practice.

2. Apply MRD results to optimize leukemia treatment decisions, including therapy escalation, deescalation, and sequencing, based on current evidence.

3. Compare MRD-guided treatment approaches across pediatric and adult leukemia populations to support age-appropriate therapy selection and continuity of care.

4. Examine strategies to prevent, monitor, and manage toxicities associated with MRD-driven therapies, including targeted agents, immunotherapies, and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.
