Cardiology PRN Focus Session — Clinical Conundrums in Cardiology: Case-Based Controversies

Saturday, October 17, 2026 from 1:45 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. MDT at Salt Palace Convention Center - Ballroom I

Available for 1.50 hours of CPE credit
Activity Number: 0217-0000-26-148-L01-P
Activity Type: An Application-Based Activity

This engaging session centers around four diverse cardiovascular cases with controversial data. Topics include the role of pharmacotherapies in Cardiac Kidney Metabolic (CKM) Syndrome, CV disease in women, anticoagulation management in structural heart interventions, and drug-induced cardiac arrhythmias. Presentations have been designed to facilitate dynamic discussions by moving away from the usual lecture format to create space for audience and panel interactions and ending with a 10-minute Q&A with discussion. The cases have been intentionally selected to demonstrate real examples of patient-specific decision-making in situations where evidence and/or recommendations are not always clear.

Learning Objectives

1. Analyze how newly introduced CKM-specific guidance will alter clinical decision-making for complex cardiology patients.

2. Develop evidence-based strategies that specifically address women’s unique cardiovascular risk profiles and disease presentations.

3. Evaluate recent updates in anticoagulation guidance following left atrial appendage closure (LAAC).

4. Design a prevention and treatment plan for drug-induced arrhythmias.
