Available for 1.50 hours of CPE creditActivity Number: 0217-0000-26-164-L01-PActivity Type: A Knowledge-Based ActivityPharmacists, as medication experts, are essential in ensuring that kidney function is considered in every therapeutic plan. They are uniquely positioned to lead kidney stewardship initiatives. This interactive session introduces and explores the concepts of kidney stewardship in promoting medication safety and efficacy. The emphasis will be on reducing nephrotoxicity and customizing pharmacotherapy based on individual kidney function.
This session will offer a pharmacist-focused framework for recognizing common and uncommon nephrotoxins, preventing iatrogenic kidney injury, and optimizing pharmacotherapy for patients with CKD and AKI. Through case-based discussions, participants will practice applying clinical reasoning to individualize renal dose adjustments, evaluate nephrotoxic risks, and address management considerations across CKD and AKI.
Learning Objectives1. Define drug stewardship as it relates to optimizing medication use and in patients with kidney disease.
2. Review the safety and efficacy of medications within the context of kidney stewardship.
3. Discuss clinical decision-making skills through case-based scenarios involving patients with kidney disease.
