In 1979 a small group of forward-thinking individuals realized the need to advance the evolving practice of clinical pharmacy. These charter members founded ACCP to meet this need and thereby laid the foundation for an organization that now serves more than 15,000 clinical pharmacists.
Today, clinical pharmacists work in virtually every health care practice setting, dispelling the long-held belief that clinical pharmacy resides only in academic and tertiary care institutions. - nearly two-thirds have completed PGY1 residency training
- one-third have completed PGY2 or specialty residency training
- two-thirds are Board certified by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties
- nearly half manage pharmacotherapy as part of a CDTM*, institutional protocol, or other privileging mechanism
*CDTM = Collaborative drug therapy management agreement between the clinical pharmacist and a physician or physician group.
