Resident Advisory Committee Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  1. How often does the Resident Advisory Committee (RAC) meet? What is the time commitment?
    • The time commitment may vary based on your role and responsibilities and the time of year. Meetings are conducted monthly during the first half of the year and may move to every other month during the second half.
    • General committee:
      • The meeting time is picked based on the members’ schedules and are normally in the evening to accommodate postgraduate trainees’ responsibilities.
    • Subcommittee groups: RAC members should expect to spend time outside meetings working on subcommittee charges, which may vary from a few hours a month to a few hours a week, depending on the time of year and the charge.
    • Committee roles:
      • Member-at-Large: Expect to attend at least one monthly 1-hour meeting initially to get to know the other members, understand the charges assigned to the committee, and report progress on the assigned work.
      • Chair and Vice-Chair: Expect to meet before the monthly meeting to prepare an agenda and touch base with the RAC’s liaison/staff support.
      • All members are expected to be roundtable discussion facilitators at the yearly Emerge from the Crowd program during the ACCP Annual Meeting.
  2. What will I be involved in with the RAC?
    • Longitudinal projects: You will be involved in several longitudinal projects throughout the year, including newsletter coordination and content development, ACCP Annual Meeting program planning, social media content development, and podcast development.
    • Charges from the ACCP Board of Regents are assigned to the RAC at the beginning of the committee year. Past charge examples include mentoring program evaluation, career center evaluation, and development of best practices guides.
    • Different opportunities may come up throughout the year that allow you to work with other RAC members.
  3. Do RAC members attend the ACCP Annual Meeting?
    • RAC members are required to attend the ACCP Annual Meeting to meet each other, network with colleagues from across the county, and receive their committee charges.
    • Fee waiver: The Annual Meeting registration fee is waived is for RAC members.
    • Sunday luncheon: A luncheon where RAC members are provided an opportunity to meet the other RAC members and learn more about the charges they will help with during the rest of their time on the committee.
