The American College of Clinical Pharmacy applauds the US House of Representatives, Committee on Ways and Means for advancing H.R. 3164 - Main Street Pharmacy Access Act. This bipartisan legislation will ensure that Medicare beneficiaries have reliable community access to essential team-based patient care services provided by pharmacists.
The bill establishes Medicare Part B coverage for collaborative, team‑based care structures in which pharmacists—working with physicians—evaluate and manage patients requiring testing or treatment for COVID-19, influenza, respiratory syncytial virus, or streptococcal pharyngitis.
Main Street Pharmacy Access Act will expand patient access to timely care, reduce strain on overburdened health‑care providers, and improve health outcomes for millions of older adults. The legislation puts patients first not only by ensuring access to important “test and treat” services, but also by requiring that the care provided is offered collaboratively.
Providing Medicare coverage for team-based services in community pharmacies is a cost-effective investment in patient access, public health readiness, and the long‑term sustainability of our primary care delivery system.
ACCP urges Congress to advance and enact the Main Street Pharmacy Access Act before the end of this year.
