ACCP’s Next Chapter: Welcoming Amie Brooks as ACCP’s Next Executive Director

Leadership transitions are important moments for any organization. They provide an opportunity to reflect on where we have been, consider what we will need for the future, and identify the leader best prepared to help us move forward.

On behalf of the ACCP Board of Regents, I am pleased to share that Amie McCord Brooks, Pharm.D., FCCP, BCACP, CAE, has been selected as ACCP’s next Executive Director. She will assume the role of Executive Director Designate on December 1, 2026, and will become Executive Director on January 1, 2027, following Executive Director Michael Maddux’s retirement at year-end.

Amie’s selection concludes a multistage search conducted in partnership with Sterling Martin Associates, a ZRG company. The search began earlier this year with input from members of the ACCP Search Committee, Board of Regents, Foundation Board, and staff to help define the organization’s needs and the leadership capabilities most important in ACCP’s next Executive Director. This input informed a set of key competencies used to guide the search and evaluate candidates, including board and volunteer leadership, people and organizational leadership, financial stewardship and revenue development, strategic planning, and advocacy.

The breadth of the candidate pool reflects the extent of the search. Sterling Martin screened 113 applicants and conducted proactive outreach to an additional 40 potential candidates. The firm held screening conversations with 30 individuals and presented 22 candidate profiles to the Search Committee for consideration. Fifteen candidates were identified for consideration in the final stages of the search, 6 of whom were invited to participate in first-round interviews with the Search Committee. Of these, 4 highly qualified finalists advanced to in-person interviews with the Board of Regents. Amie advanced through each stage of this process and was ultimately selected by the Board to serve as ACCP’s next Executive Director.

As ACCP president, I had the opportunity to participate closely in this process. One of the things that stood out to me was the strength of the candidate pool and particularly the 4 finalists who met with the Board. Each brought significant experience and a distinct perspective on the opportunities ahead for ACCP. This made the Board’s responsibility both encouraging and consequential. Throughout the process, our focus remained on the leadership that ACCP will need for its next chapter and the person best prepared to help the College advance its mission on behalf of its members and the profession.

Many ACCP members already know Amie through her work with the College. She joined the ACCP staff in 2019 and currently serves as Senior Director of Strategic Initiatives, working closely with the Board of Regents, ACCP members, volunteer leaders, staff, and external partners. In this role, she has helped facilitate the development, implementation, and monitoring of ACCP’s strategic plans and worked to translate strategic priorities into meaningful organizational initiatives.

Her ACCP leadership portfolio is broad and includes strategic planning, governance and organizational initiatives, member engagement, professional and clinical practice advancement, and diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) efforts. She has helped lead the development and implementation of ACCP’s strategic DEIA plans in collaboration with the Board, members, volunteer leaders, and staff and has supported efforts to increase transparency and communicate progress to the membership.

Amie has also been extensively involved in building relationships beyond ACCP. Her work has included collaborations with organizations across pharmacy and health care, including efforts designed to strengthen clinical pharmacist-physician collaboration and initiatives that broaden access to clinical pharmacy career opportunities. Members may also recognize professional development initiatives she has helped lead, including the Billing and Contracting for Outpatient Clinical Pharmacy Services program and other offerings developed in response to evolving needs in clinical pharmacy practice. Her portfolio also includes efforts to strengthen member engagement and explore new approaches to delivering value to ACCP members.

Although Amie’s knowledge of ACCP will be an asset as she assumes this role, her preparation extends well beyond her current position. Her career has involved clinical pharmacy practice, pharmacy education, academic administration, volunteer leadership, strategic planning, and association management.

Before joining ACCP, Amie held faculty and leadership roles at the Midwestern University Chicago College of Pharmacy and the St. Louis College of Pharmacy. At St. Louis College of Pharmacy, she served as director of the Division of Ambulatory Care and vice chair of the Department of Pharmacy Practice. Her responsibilities included faculty and personnel leadership, residency education, program development, clinical partnerships, and organizational initiatives. She also maintained an active clinical pharmacy practice in primary care, where she developed focused/specialized services, including management of diabetes and hypertension, anticoagulation therapy, and pulmonary disease. She is also a Certified Association Executive through the American Society of Association Executives.

Amie therefore not only understands ACCP from the inside, but also brings experiences and perspectives developed across different professional roles and environments. I believe this combination will be valuable as she works with the Board, staff, and members to preserve what is distinctive and strong about ACCP while continuing to challenge us to evolve.

Leadership transitions also naturally bring questions about what will change and what will remain the same. These conversations will unfold over time and, importantly, should include our members. ACCP has strong strategic foundations, an engaged membership, talented volunteer leaders and staff, and important work underway across practice advancement, education, research, advocacy, and professional development. Amie will inherit these strengths while also bringing her own leadership perspective to the opportunities and challenges ahead.

Amie will assume the role of Executive Director Designate on December 1 and will work closely with Mike Maddux throughout December during the planned transition period. Following Mike’s retirement at year-end, Amie will officially assume the role of Executive Director on January 1, 2027.

Mike’s retirement at the end of this year marks an important milestone for ACCP. His leadership has helped shape the College and advance its mission, and the Board is deeply grateful for his years of service, his dedication to our members and the profession, and his commitment to ensuring a thoughtful and seamless leadership transition. There will be opportunities in the coming months to recognize Mike and his many contributions more fully. For now, I am especially appreciative of his willingness to work closely with Amie during this transition and help position the College for continued success.

One of our priorities during the transition is to create meaningful opportunities for members to hear directly from Amie and engage with her as she prepares to assume this new role. If you will be joining us at the ACCP Annual Meeting in Salt Lake City, I encourage you to attend the ACCP Town Hall on Sunday, October 18, from 2:15 to 3:45 p.m. (MDT) in the Salt Palace Convention Center, Room 151 D-G. As part of the Town Hall, we will feature “Meet ACCP’s Incoming Executive Director: A Conversation and Q&A with Amie Brooks.” Amie will introduce herself in this new capacity, share some of the experiences and perspectives she brings to the role, and discuss what she looks forward to as she prepares to become Executive Director. Just as importantly, members will be able to ask questions and engage directly with her.

We recognize that many members will be unable to join us in Salt Lake City. Therefore, we will also schedule a virtual “Member Conversation and Q&A” with Amie after the Annual Meeting. These will only be the beginning, rather than the end, of this conversation. Additional opportunities for interaction and engagement will be offered throughout 2027 so that members across ACCP can get to know Amie, hear from her, and participate in conversations about the College’s future.

Selecting ACCP’s next Executive Director was one of the most important responsibilities entrusted to the Board of Regents this year. I am deeply grateful to Suzanne Nesbit, Pharm.D., FCCP, BCPS, who served as chair of the Executive Director Search Committee, and to committee member Curtis Haas, Pharm.D., FCCP; Sandra Kane-Gill, Pharm.D., FCCP, and Jo Ellen Rodgers, Pharm.D., FCCP, BCPS, BCCP, representing the ACCP Board of Regents; James Tisdale, Pharm.D., BCPS, FCCP, representing the ACCP Foundation Board; and Sheldon Holstad, Pharm.D., serving as the ACCP staff representative. I appreciate the considerable time, thoughtful deliberation, and commitment each brought to this important responsibility.

I also want to thank Sterling Martin Associates, the ACCP staff, members of the ACCP Board of Regents and Foundation Board, and PRN leaders, who provided valuable early input regarding the characteristics and qualities they believed would be important in ACCP’s next Executive Director.

As we enter this next chapter, I also want our members and staff to know that your perspectives, engagement, and involvement remain essential to ACCP’s success. The Board’s responsibility was to select ACCP’s next Executive Director, but our future will continue to be shaped by the collective expertise, ideas, and commitment of our members. I hope you will take advantage of the opportunities ahead to get to know Amie, share your perspectives, ask questions, and remain actively engaged in the College.

I am excited about the opportunity ahead for ACCP and look forward to working with Amie, our Boards, our staff, and each of you as we begin this next chapter. Please join me in congratulating Amie and welcoming her as ACCP’s next Executive Director.
