Description:
The Drug Information PRN and Health Equity PRN present this engaging session addressing the intersection of medical misinformation, generative artificial intelligence (AI), and health equity. This collaborative session addresses areas of need and challenges identified from the Drug Information member survey and results from the Health Equity PRN project mapping health equity integration across ACCP PRNs. The Drug Information PRN members’ feedback highlighted challenges in AI benefits and dangers, best practices, combatting misinformation and integrating health equity measures in drug information. Furthermore, in the Health Equity PRN mapping project, of the 27 PRNs that completed the survey, 13 (81.3%) indicated none/not discussed/NA to “What best practices does your PRN recommend for the responsible integration and use of AI to reduce stigma or bias?” Collectively, this CE session will be 1 hour on August 26, from 1 PM-2 PM EDT composed of 2 presentations by Drs. Faria Munir and Sally Arif. Dr. Munir will discuss how generative AI shapes medical misinformation and apply structured evaluation and communication strategies to verify accuracy and counter misinformation effectively. Dr. Arif will discuss the impact of misinformation on vulnerable populations and integrate health equity and ethical AI principles into drug information practices to support unbiased, evidence-based communication.
