Join ACCP on Sunday, October 13, during the Opening General Session of the 2013 ACCP Annual Meeting in Albuquerque, New Mexico, for the keynote address, titled “Let’s Do It Together! Collaborative Leadership, Shared Professionalism, and Improving Outcomes Through High-Functioning Health Care Teams.” Matthew Wynia, M.D., MPH, FACP, director of Physician and Patient Engagement for Improving Health Outcomes at the American Medical Association, will serve as the 2013 Annual Meeting keynote speaker.
During the keynote address, Dr. Wynia will identify the fundamental principles and values of effective team-based health care and the specific ways in which the use of team values and skills can improve outcomes for patients with hypertension and other clinical conditions. He will discuss major opportunities and challenges in the health professions when educating and training health professionals on team values and skills. The keynote will also include an in-depth discussion on the concept of “shared professionalism” and its vital importance for a more effective health care system.
Dr. Wynia’s experience includes time served as the director of the Institute for Ethics at the American Medical Association, where he managed various research projects on topics such as physician professionalism and the role of professionals in society; ethical challenges in preparing for epidemics and bioterrorism; encouraging professional responsibility for trust in health care; and creating performance measures for health care ethics. Dr. Wynia currently practices internal medicine and infectious diseases at the University of Chicago hospitals, where he is a clinical assistant professor of medicine. Research led by Dr. Wynia has been published in leading medical journals such as The New England Journal of Medicine and JAMA, and he has been featured on ABC News Nightline, BBC World Service, and NPR’s All Things Considered.
