ACCP Report

In Memoriam: Charles A. Walton, Ph.D., FCCP (1926–2014)

The ACCP family was deeply saddened by the death of founding member Charles Walton on July 31, 2014. Dr. Walton was a past member of the Board of Regents and an Honorary ACCP Fellow. Dr. Walton was one of clinical pharmacy’s most influential leaders and pioneers. His vision that pharmacists would one day become direct patient care providers who optimize the use of medications and improve patient outcomes had an important impact on the formation and direction of ACCP. His mentoring played a major role in the development of many of today’s clinical pharmacy leaders. He inspired generations of student pharmacists, residents, and young faculty at the University of Kentucky, Lexington, and the University of Texas, San Antonio, to achieve excellence in clinical practice, education, and research. In 2006, he received ACCP’s most prestigious award, the Paul F. Parker Medal. He is survived by his wife, Joyce, of Titus, Alabama, and two sons, Charles A. and Kendall M. Walton.
