ACCP Welcomes its 10,000th Member

On January 15, 2009, the College processed the membership application of Kofi D. Sallar, Pharm.D., BCPS, making him ACCP’s 10,000th member! Dr. Sallar is a commissioned officer in the U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS) and currently serves as the Chief Pharmacist at Tohatchi Health Center, a USPHS ambulatory care clinic on the Navajo reservation, about 40 miles north of Gallup, New Mexico. “Joining ACCP was spurred by my desire to broaden my peer-group base and to fully access the educational opportunities provided by the College,” Dr. Sallar noted. “Along the way, I earned the nickname ‘10-K’ from my friends when I became the ten thousandth ACCP member.”

As a young African boy, Kofi migrated to the United States “in a borrowed sweater, with a borrowed suitcase, a gift of $20, and a cherished appetite for the American dream.” A graduate of the University of Nebraska School of Pharmacy, Dr. Sallar completed residency training at the Gallup Indian Medical Center and subsequently earned board certification in Pharmacotherapy. He will be recognized during the upcoming International Congress on Clinical Pharmacy in Orlando this April and will receive a commemorative membership certificate signed by the 11 members of the Board of Regents.

“It’s unlikely that in 1979, ACCP’s 29 founding members foresaw the growth of this organization to 10,000 members,” commented ACCP’s Executive Director, Michael Maddux. “This is indeed a milestone for the College, and we are gratified to recognize Dr. Sallar as the College’s 10,000th member. What a terrific way to set the stage for our 30th anniversary!” ACCP was founded in September 1979 at an organizational meeting held at the University of Missouri–Kansas City. Kim Kelly, Pharm.D., was elected as ACCP’s first President. The College’s 29 founding members were:
