BCPPS Recertification
From Theory to Practice: Clinical Reasoning Series in Pediatric Pharmacy—The ABC’s of Pediatric Epilepsy: From Status Epilepticus to Long-term Seizure Management, a new Clinical Reasoning Series offering, has been approved by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) to provide 6.0 continuing pharmacy education credit hours that can be used toward recertification of BCPPSs. Partial credit is not available. The series will explore cutting-edge, contemporary topics of relevance to everyday practice and will use active learning exercises designed to advance the skills and abilities of the board-certified specialist.
This year’s program will evaluate pharmacologic treatment options for patients who present in status epilepticus and will examine the efficacy and toxicities of oral antiepileptic medications used to treat various pediatric epilepsy syndromes. Attendees will gain skills in evaluating the published literature concerning the management of pediatric epilepsy and in designing an individualized, evidence-based therapeutic plan for treating patients with complex pediatric epilepsy. The program will also examine treatment options for patients with pharmacoresistent epilepsy and possible alternative therapeutic options for seizure control.
This 1-day program will include interactive sessions on these topics:
- Pediatric epilepsy basics
- Acute management of status epilepticus (ED through ICU)
- Antiepileptic medications
- Pharmacoresistent epilepsy treatments: ketogenic diets and beyond
- Patient cases/panel discussion
To be eligible for specialty recertification credit, the specialist must attend the live program and successfully complete the web-based posttest for that program by November 30, 2016. More information on the program and registration details may be found at www.accp.com/meetings/am16/.
