Like sisters, the two official journals of ACCP will share many traits, yet be distinctly different.
Pharmacotherapy and the forthcoming
Journal of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (
JACCP) will share readership, production staff, and the mission to improve human health by publishing work in the fields of clinical pharmacology and clinical pharmacy. The new kid on the block,
JACCP, will benefit from the experience and maturity of
Pharmacotherapy in these areas. However, the birth of
JACCP and its devotion to the publication of papers across the spectrum of clinical pharmacy has actually allowed
Pharmacotherapy to sharpen its focus on human pharmacology and drug therapy.
Consider the following pairs of manuscripts.
- Concentrations of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder Medications and Corresponding Effects on Sleep Patterns
- Detecting and Managing Sleep Disorders in Pediatric Patients Taking Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder Medications: A Pharmacy Resident Service
- Update on Tramadol Drug Interactions
- Minimizing Tramadol Drug Interactions Through an Inpatient-to-Outpatient Collaboration
- Cost-Effectiveness of Two Drug Treatment Strategies in Patients with Heart Failure and Preserved Ejection Fraction
- Cost-Effectiveness of Multidisciplinary Clinical Pharmacist-Led Services for Patients with Heart Failure and Preserved Ejection Fraction
These paired articles will undoubtedly draw an overlapping readership. The first paper in each pair focuses on pharmacology and drug therapy and is appropriate for publication in Pharmacotherapy. The second paper in each pair concentrates on applying pharmacotherapeutic knowledge to clinical practice and is appropriate for publication in JACCP. No type of paper in any of the pairs is more important than the other. Rather, each has the potential to contribute to positive pharmacotherapy outcomes.
Potential authors should not be concerned if the different scopes of the two journals are still unclear. The shared production staff and teaming of the editors-in-chief will allow manuscripts to be readily transferred for consideration from one journal to the other. Such transfers will only be carried out with the author's permission and can be accomplished without re-uploading the original submission files to the second journal.
ACCP and Pharmacotherapy Publications, Inc. are pleased to provide JACCP as the new home for clinical pharmacy practice research and reviews beginning in October 2018. In the meantime, consider challenging yourself to find articles published in Pharmacotherapy over the next few months that, in the future, will likely be referred to JACCP.
